1. Regular Season Play:
Every team will play each team in its zone twice, home and away. The standings will be on a point system, two points for a win and one point for a tie after the game is official (5 innings – 4 ½ if home team is leading).

No Regular Season game can be scheduled after Thursday July 13, 2005.

Reporting Game Results:
Managers must close out the games on the website at www.legion5baseball.com or email Bill Carr at billcarrsr@comcast.net and Vin Macone at vmacone@legion5baseball.com or call Bill Carr at 781-395-4668. Failure to report game results within 48 hours will result in a fine of $25. Failure to report game results within 72 hours will result in the forfeiture of the points for the win or tie. The winning team is responsible to report the results of the game. When there is a tie game, the Home Team is responsible to report the results of the game.

2. Rainouts:
Rainouts must be reported to Bill Carr at billcarrsr@comcast.net and Vin Macone at vmacone@legion5baseball.com or call Bill Carr at 781-395-4668 and contact your local Umpire Assignor.

3. Rescheduling of Games:
Rescheduling of games for rainouts or any other reason must be completed and reported to billcarrsr@comcast.net and vmacone@legion5baseball.com or call Bill Carr at 781-395-4863 and your local Umpire Assignor within 48 hours. The Home Team makes the call, and if both teams are not scheduled on the next available date, subject to the availability of a field, the game will be played. No excuses will be accepted. Failure of the Visiting Team to play the game will result in a forfeit. Failure of the Home Team to not reschedule the game will result in a $100 fine and the League will schedule the game.

4. Re-scheduling of non-weather related games:
Mangers must have 48 hours notice and there must be a reasonable excuse. Not having enough players is not a reasonable excuse – it is a forfeit. The Chairman will resolve any dispute. 

5. Forfeits:
Forfeiting two games in a season for lack of players requires the Manager to meet with the Chairman to determine what will happen with the remaining schedule. 

A. Visiting teams who show up at the Home team’s field and cannot field a team must pay the Umpires fee.

B. Failure to report the results of the game within 72 hours.

C. Failure of either the Home or Visiting team to field a team after a 20 minute wait.

6. Protest:
All protest must be reported to the Chairman after the game.

The protest must be submitted in writing to John Granara via U.S Postal Service or email at jgranara@sdm.state.ma.us within 24 hours. Judgement calls do not warrant a protest. The Protest Committee, consisting of the Chairman; Vice-Chairmen and Umpire in Chief, shall rule on the protest. The aggrieved team has the option of appealing the Protest Committee decision to the State Chairman. The State Chairman’s decision will be final.

7. Umpires:

A. Fees for umpires are $60.00 per game. If there is only one umpire, he will receive a fee and a half. If the umpires show up and the game is not played for whatever reason, they will receive a half fee each.

B. If the Visiting team or Home team fails to show after a wait of twenty minutes, the game will be declared a forfeit and the umpires will be paid a full fee.

C. Parents or siblings of players are not allowed to umpire in League or Playoff games.

8. Player Ejection:

A. Players who are ejected from a game must serve a one game suspension on the bench in uniform during the next scheduled game played. If the suspended player is in the lineup during the suspension , the team will forfeit that game and the suspended player must sit out the next game. The ejection of a player must be reported to John Granara at jgranara@sdm.state.ma.us and billcarrsr@comcast.net and vmacone@legion5baseball.com or call John Granara.

B. If a player is ejected from the third game, he will be suspended for the remainder of the season.

9. Legion Baseball Paperwork:
A team may not start the season unless all the required paperwork has been completed and approved by the Chairman.

10. All Managers and coaches must be in full uniform to participate in a game per our Department and National rules.

11. League Dues:
Team dues are $150 per season. Teams are not allowed to schedule games until the dues are paid.

12. District 5 Tournament Play
A. The Zone 5A and Zone 5B Champions will automatically advance to the Department Sectional Tournament.

13. Middlesex County District 5 Qualifying Tournament:
he second, third, fourth and fifth place Teams will participate in the 2006 District 5 Qualifying Tournament.

A. First Round Seeding. The second place team in each Zone will play the fifth place team in the opposite zone. The third place teams of each Zone will play the fourth place team in the opposite zone in the first round single elimination game. The winners advance to the second round.

B. Second round seeding will be by best record and across zones. Highest Seed plays the lowest seed. Final seeding will be announced at completion of first round play. Two winners will advance to the Department Sectional Tournament.

C. Higher seeded teams will be the home team. Game locations to be determined by League Chairman.

D. The games will be 7 innings and the American Legion National Tournament Baseball rules will apply.

E. The games will be played on Friday July 14 2006 and Sunday July15.

F. In the event the weather prevents the completion of the Tournament, the number 2 seeded team in each Zone will be the Department Sectional Tournament qualifiers.

14. Tie Breaker Rules
Tie Breakers to determine Zone winners, final standings and Tournament seedings are:

a. head to head

b. record against teams with a .500 or better record

c. coin flip

15. Department Sectional Tournament Seedings
The four team seeding for the Department Sectional Tournament will be done via best won/loss percentage of regular season games. Ties are not included in won/loss percentage calculations.

16. If a team does not complete its schedule, it will not enter post season tournaments. However a forfeit will be considered a completed game and both teams will be eligible for post season play.
